Will they be able to compete with Bose technology, or Logitech’s experience in producing quality speaker products who have been manufacturing speakers ever since they started the company? Let’s try to see and read on!

Jabra Solemate comes in three portable sizes: The Jabra Solemate mini, the Jabra Solemate, and the Jabra Solemate Max. The particular portable speaker we are to review is the regular sized Jabra Solemate Bluetooth speaker.

Does it look like a shoe? Not really, but it has a sole! (Hence, the name SOLEMATE). It looks more like a carry bag for shoes though.

Pros

  1. Decent Sound – It produces quite a decent sound with two tweeters and a woofer in front of the speaker. There is not much thump in the low registers but with the price, it gives quite a decent treble and high sound. The quality is rich enough for portable Bluetooth speakers. It has enough power to create moderate decent sound in a room.
  2. Design – The design is quite unique styling a shoe like appearance. You can attach different colored soles at the bottom of the unit so that to add style and protection to the unit. The detachable sole also has a 3.5mm jack which can let you plug any device, like an MP3 player or any media player device that doesn’t have NFC or Bluetooth connectivity.
  3. Range of Speaker Phone Capability – The range of the speaker from the wirelessly connected device (either Bluetooth or NFC) can be up to 10 meters. There is no hiss or choppiness within 10 feet.
  4. Durability – The speaker is quite durable. It is dust resistant and water resistant. The speaker system can be inserted on its carry bag and still able to play music which makes this speaker great for use to the beach.
  5. Simplicity of Connections – If you are looking for a speaker, this is for you. There are no unnecessary features. The switches and toggles are positioned in a strategic manner.

 Cons

  1. Sound Quality at High Volume – The sound quality at high volumes is quite distorted. It is best used if volume is turned only up to 75%. With this precaution to avoid distortion, the battery life also can extend longer. But the loudness of the sound also in compromised. It doesn’t really fill the room if you keep it up to 75% volume only.
  2. Poor Microphone Quality – Sound from a call is quite clear but on the other end of the line, voice quality is quite poor. The hands free feature for calls does not go well is the microphone sound pick up is quite poor.

Recommendations

Who should buy it? This unit is best for the travelling buddy. It is light and small enough that you can pack it when travelling. Connectivity is not a problem as well so this speaker system is recommended for people who have music in their smartphones. If you have an Apple device, an Android device or even an MP3, this is a speaker for you. If you are to use this as speaker phone, better think twice. Microphone quality is only 6 out of 10.

People who love to have their music on the beach with them can have this device. It is best placed at a table opposite a wall and not at the center of the room. It is quite small and the speaker are also small which can only create decent sound at mid range volume. The strap which is integrated on the device makes it easier to carry and this makes it extra portable for travel. It should be better for travel if the strap is similar to that of its bigger version, the Jabra Solemate Max.

If you are not into music with a lot of bass thump and you do not want loud sound, this is a good enough speaker for you. Acoustic, RnB, Jazz or any music will sound great on this speaker as long as you don’t play it too loud.

 Bottomline

Jabra has produced quality Bluetooth earphones and they have yet to improve the sound quality for the Jabra Solemate Bluetooth Portable Speaker. Although it is quite a great buy for a small speaker because of its build, portability, design, and connectivity it is yet to compete with quality sound from Bose, Logitech, Beats and the other leading speaker manufacturers. It yet has to deliver a big sound.
